Named query not appearing in report builder

I'm having a heck of a time with named queries. At this point I just want a proof of concept in my DSV. I have a bunch of tables added to the DSV, and I would like to add a named query to it so the user can pick from the name query in report builder. What has to be done to make it appear in the report builder?

Nevermind. I didn't realize that the report model definition had to be refreshed.

Named and UnNamed parameters

While creating a report i am running into a problem with parameters.
When building the query i would like to use the same parameter more then
once.
for instance :
select *
from table
where field = @.parameter1
and field = @.Parameter1
and field = @.parameter1
I can runs this Query successfully in the Data tab of the report .however
when i go to the layout or preview tab i get the following error:
The data extension ODBC does not support named parameters. use unnamed
parameters instead.
If i run the query using ? as the parameter i dont have any problems.However
for each ? parameter the user is prompted to supply a value.This is
unacceptable as the user would have to enter the same value numerous times.
select *
from table
where field = ?
and field = ?
and field = ?
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA,
VinnyThere are query parameters and report parameters. RS automatically creates
the report parameters for you. It will create a report parameter for each
unnammed parameter. What you need to do is map each query parameter to a
single report parameter. In the data tab click on the ..., parameters tab.
Map each ? on the left to the same report parameter on the right. Next go to
the layout, report->report parameters and remove the extra unused report
parameters.

I am using DB2 so I also have to use unnamed parms in my queries. I have
used your solution for parms that need entries on the report. However - that
doesnt solve the problem that the query on the data tab still has 10 question
marks in it and it would be really helpful to those that have to modify
"others" reports to not have to try and play "match the parameter" ... Is
there a way to place a comment in the query tab? that might be helpful
enough. Thanks! I am posting a much larger ISSUE about dealing with parms
syntax when I need to code the sql as an expression ... please see Parm
Syntax for SQL Expression

Name of User Requesting Report

I have several reports that need a parameter for logon name. How can I get
the name of the user requesting the report so I can use that in a parameter
for the report query?
Thanks for any helpThere is a global value of UserID that you can assign to the report
parameter in an expression. Its value is the domain\userid for the
connected user.
example:
=Globals!UserID
You can assign it to a stored procedure paramter in the parameter tab
of the data set editor. Be sure to use the CommandType of
"StoredProcedure" and not "Text" when configuring the data set.

Name of report in title bar?

Hi everybody,
is it possible to show the name of the report in the title bar of
Internet Explorer? My users have muliple IE-applications open, all
with different reports. They would like to see the name of the report
in the windows taskbar instead of "Report Manager - Microsoft Internet
Explorer".
Anybody any thoughts?
Thanks in advance, Vivian.The reason it says Report Manager in the title bar is because the WEB
application sets it to do so. This isnt controlled by the report.
I have a solution for you although it will require some development.
All Reports are generated from the Report.aspx located under the
"ReportManager\Pages\" folder
You CAN add a <title>Report Name</title> title tags in the ASPX file.
The actual ASPX file looks empty, but you can place HTML code in there.
You can write javascript code to read the ItemPath parameter - this is
the parameter for the path of the report. It is in the query string.
This will allow you to get the Report Name.
Then you just use the following code to set the title:
document.title = "Report Name"
regards,
Stas K.|||Here add this into report.aspx:
<script>
function getQueryVariable(variable) {
var query = window.location.search.substring(1);
var vars = query.split("&");
for (var i=0;i<vars.length;i++) {
var pair = vars[i].split("=");
if (pair[0] == variable) {
return pair[1];
}
}
//alert('Query Variable ' + variable + ' not found');
}
</script>
<script>
var query2 = getQueryVariable("ItemPath")
document.title =query2.substring(query2.lastIndexOf('%2f')+3,query2.length);
</script>|||Heh,
I never thought of this. This helped me too. The executives were very
appriciative.
regards,
Stas K.|||Looks good Stas! Will test it first thing monday morning.
Thanx, Vivian|||Great code.
I extended it a bit, to replace the +s between each word with a space.
This is my updated script:
<script>
// function getQueryVariable and page script found at
//

// function replace found at
//http://www.rgagnon.com/jsdetails/js-0043.html
//Purpose of code: Replace page title "Report Manager" with the report name
in Report Manager
function getQueryVariable(variable) {
var query = window.location.search.substring(1);
var vars = query.split("&");
for (var i=0;i<vars.length;i++) {
var pair = vars[i].split("=");
if (pair[0] == variable) {
return pair[1];
}
}
//alert('Query Variable ' + variable + ' not found');
}
function replace(s, t, u) {
/*
** Replace a token in a string
** s string to be processed
** t token to be found and removed
** u token to be inserted
** returns new String
*/
i = s.indexOf(t);
r = "";
if (i == -1) return s;
r += s.substring(0,i) + u;
if ( i + t.length < s.length)
r += replace(s.substring(i + t.length, s.length), t, u);
return r;
}
</script>
<script>
var query2 = getQueryVariable("ItemPath")
query2 = query2.substring(query2.lastIndexOf('%2f')+3,query2.length);
query2 = replace(query2, '+', ' ');
document.title =query2
</script>
- Again, great idea and great code. :)

Name of report in head dynamically

Hi everybody,
does anybody knows if it is possible to create a report where the name
changes. I want to dynamically add a subtitle with data from a database.
E.g. (Static: Adress List, Dynamic: of Town XY). Apparently it is not
possible to insert fields from a dataset in the head of a report, so what
would be a good workaraound?
Thx for your support.
Regards
MichaelMichael,
Place a textbox in the body of the report. For the value of the
textbox, put the data from your DB, (ie
=First(Field!NameOfField.Value)).
Once this textbox has the data you want to display, refer to the
textbox in the header (ie =ReportItems!NameOfTextboxWithDataIWanttoDisplay.Value).

Name multiple sheets in excel export?

I have a report that when exported to Excel creates multiple sheets. Im
doing this on purpose. I wanted know if anyone new a way to
automatically name the Sheets in the Excel export? I wanted to name
them from a field on the report.I don't believe this is possible in the current versions of Reporting
Services. It seems like a functionality that would have a great deal
of value for reporting purposes, so hopefully MS will include this
feature in a future service pack.

n00b question - permissions from website

Hi everyone,

I've inherited a website based on the dotnetnuke frameowork.

this website also uses the reporting services from sqlserver.

When the report button is clicked in the website, the user is prompted

with a login and password (standard windows dialog)

Entering the username/password for the web site fails,

entering username/password for the machine works.

The user - of course - doesn't want to enter enything, let alone see the darn dialog box,

just wants to see the report on the screen.

Does anyone have any ideas on where to start looking for a solution to this problem?

thanks

tony

The settings for the permissions of the report service are in the service's properties in IIS settings in control panel -> administrative tools. You might be able to set it to use the same password as the rest of the website there.

Mysterious gaps on PDFs and prints

Hello, I have a report that looks fine in preview, but when put to PDF or printed contains gaps at the right and bottom.

Here is a picture of the problem: http://northeasttigers.webng.com/pdfproblem.jpg

My tables are the same width as the body, 15.5cm, and the report width is 21cm. Also adding the bottom table's top location attribute to it's height gives the same height as the body.

Any help much appreciated.

Greg

It looks like that might be your margin - have a look at that property (click on the report body to see it).

|||

Thanks, that fixed it! Making the body width + left & right margins = report width fixed my problem.

Thanks very much, much appreciated.

No worries. Posting a pic was a good move, it meant that no guess work was required Smile

MySQL 5.0 Views wont work with crystal reports

I can access my view data through the application, but when i try to create the report in crytal reports and set up the database through an odbc driver 3.51.

If i click on a normal table its fine, but with the views it says

"Error Opening File: There are no fields in the file: "[View name]".Hi,

I've got a similar problem but using a stored proc. (See earlier posting for more info)

After much hair-pulling and soul searching i think that their might be a compatibility problem with MySQL5, MyODBC 3.51 and Crystal.

Have you tried MyODBC 5.0 yet? If it installs and works on yr side that might take yr problem away. And if it does, please let us know what you did cause it dont wanna install here.

Thanks and good luck|||Thanks

I have tried the 5.0 ODBC Connector, but unfortunatly i had no joy. Still the same error.

My Very Own SOAP / Web Service Report Viewer

I just created a new report and the table header is visible, as is the

You need to create a new server side role and grant proper server side
permission.
At least, you need to grant the following:
Execute Report Definitions

Once you grant one of these Server management permission to the Role and

My reports folder

How to rename the "My reports" folder. My browser language is in french and
user are speaking french. The report manager only show "My reports" but I
want to see "Mes rapports"
I know that is the "listChildren" method that add My report. Is there a way
to change this?We simply made an .aspx (or it could even be an html) page as the
starting-page for the users with an url-link to their "my reports" content

this, or that the localization should be automatic if the OS hosting the
report server is localized to French:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa972255(SQL.80).aspx -- while this
page may be outdated, there is a similar set of paragraphs in BOL for 2005.
I quote:
A few items are always articulated in the language that corresponds to the
operating system language setting, regardless of client application locale.
The following table describes these items.
Predefined roles
Reporting Services installs with several predefined roles (Browser,
Publisher, Content Manager, My Reports, System Administrator, and System
User) that are articulated in the language resource of the operating system
that runs the report server.
Users folder, and My Reports folder
These folder names are reserved when the My Reports feature is enabled. This
feature requires a fixed folder structure. Because the report server manages
reserved names, reserved folder names are articulated in the language
resource of the operating system that runs the report server.

So... what is the regional setting of the OS, in your case?

My report wont work :-) with a date param

Hi All,
I have inherited a report that at the Dataset level works fine. It takes a
date param eg. 02-Dec-2005 and returns 3 rows as I would expect.
The report page has the date param defined as Datetime and when I enter the
date ie. 02-Dec-2005 it returns 0 rows. I have tried inputting different date
formats
to no avail. kinda puzzled.
Any clues as to the cause of the problem.
Thanx in advancewell,i had kind of this problem.
I never use parm as datetime always as string and inside the dataset i use
CONVERT(datetime,@.FromTime,103) it works 4 me...

on here I think, might try a string param instead , although Ive not had this
issue before in Date param'd reps. Guess thats the problem when inheriting
others work. Thanx for your and others input. Much appreciated

My Report Manager is missing...Need help ASAP!

Cannot find the report manager. I tried starting the Report Manager from the
start menu on the server and received this error "Page cannot be displayed".
I then tried from the authoring comupter start menu and got the same message.
I then tried to deploy a report to the site and received and error "cannot
connect to the report server". I have never gotten these messages before.
There was some recent work on the server but that shouldn't affect RS should
it. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.What version are you on?

server!
If security was set up then you need the keys from the initial server.
Alternatively, do a clean install of reporting services and reload the
reports via visual studio...
This way is alot cleaner and simpler with the nice way one can
"deploy" reports.

My Report Manager Broke "The underlying connection was closed"

Our company recently re-located the servers and somehow in the process of
disconnecting -> reconnecting the Report Server the Report Manager now cannot
be run. All we get is the error:
"The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote
server."
Interestingly, this affects ONLY the Report Manager, the Report Service is
running OK and all reports run fine via our web application and in Visual
Studio IDE etc...
Any clues?Hi!
We had a similar problem and resolved it by correcting the Applications
Extensions Mapping for the ReportServer virtual directory. Information about
configuring Reporting Services' virtual directories is available here:
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=867872
Good luck,
Bob

but Im not quite sure this will help me. I checked the extensions for our
ReportServer virtual directory and they are already mapped exactly as
specified in the Support article. Also, ReportServer is working fine in so
far as reports can still be run through it.
It is only the Report Manager Web UI that is flaking out.

manager web interface gives The underlying connection was closed. was there a
resolution to this problem?

process of migrating to a production server, it is not a emergency for us. I
do know this is a general web service error, not necessarily specfic to RS.
However if you find the answer please respond. I am curious.

I figured out the solution to this problem. Follwoing 3 things should be
made sure of:
1. Never reinstall reporting services without first uninstalling it
completely... i.e first remove the registry entiries manually then only
reporting services uninstallation is complete.
2. In the RSWebApplication.Config file in Reports Manager , the
ReportServerURL key should have a value as https:/IP(of the report manager
virtual directory)/ReportServer . If in other Report Server and Report
manager .Config files, you find localhost... replace it with the IP of the
virtual directory where reports manager and report server are installed.
3. When you deploy the report, in the configuration properties for the
project .. in the deployment path, again specify the IP instaed of
localhost...
If all these 3 things are taken care of.. then this error will not occur...
When i fixed all these, it worked for me.

My Report feature

Currently - our Reporting Services site is setup so that all Domain Users can access it. We are starting to use Report Builder now. I have enabled the My Reports folder feature that that creates a user folder for anyone that logs onto the site. Is there a way to just create the user folders for certain people?

Yes. You do not have to use the "My Reports" function at all. Just create a folder for each user under the Home folder and then assign them at least browser rights to that folder. Also, be sure they have browser rights to the Home folder or they will not be able to see their own folder as this follows a hierachial structure.
